When a star employee gets promoted to a supervisory position, it’s exhilarating – but it can be intimidating, too.
The newly minted supervisor has a great career opportunity, but without the right people skills and organizational know-how, she and her direct reports can fall short. So can your company.
The California Apartment Association’s upcoming property management webinar, “Professional Skills for Supervisors,” helps head off this scenario. It’s perfect for both new supervisors and those wanting to brush up on their leadership savvy.
Students will learn about:
· Building a team, setting goals and maximizing employee performance.
· Employment practices such as screening and hiring, as well as the interview process.
· Selecting vendors and contractors.
· The importance of documentation and organizing operational, fiscal and historical records.
· Recognizing the potential for theft and fraud.
Like other property management webinars this summer, the class will be presented in two 90-minute segments. The first half will be webcast at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, and the second half at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. Students must complete both to obtain course credit.
The teacher, Eileen Greene of Greene Property Management in Walnut Creek, brings about 15 years of property management experience, plus more than 30 years as an organizational and training consultant.
The deadline to enroll in “Professional Skills for Supervisors” is noon Friday, Aug. 9. The same deadline to register will apply to each weekly course so that the student receives dedicated login information prior to the beginning of the webinar.
